Most free outdoor courts are first come, first serve, and you could be jockeying for a tennis court. I will link to places that take reservations at recreation centers or private facilities.

The Best Free Indoor Courts In Austin
Dittmar Rec Center

Dittmar Recreation center strives to improve the quality of life for residents in South Austin by providing services and programs that address emotional, social, and physical needs. The recreation center is 6,405 square feet and has multiple rooms with varying purposes, such as a dance and free open pickleball play on Tue. Thurs. and Saturday.
They have four dedicated pickleball courts at the rec center; call them for more information.
George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center

This sprawling 18,000-square-foot center contains a full-court gymnasium, weight room, arts and crafts room, and more. They have three indoor courts on Mondays and Wednesdays, free open play with no reservations. They also offer pickleball lessons for beginners play to learn the game. The facility is approximately 20,000 square feet and consists of a gymnasium with six basketball courts and rock climbing wall, and a fitness center. Gustavo Rec Center offers the most accessible open-play pickleball time in the area, with three indoor courts. They often get very busy, so be prepared to wait a bit.
South Austin Recreation Center

The center is a spacious 10-acre area off Cumberland Dr., minutes from Zilker neighborhood park, with an indoor basketball gym and lobby with ping pong tables. The South Austin facility is an active rec center with many free programs great for kids. In addition, there are outdoor park amenities such as an outdoor basketball court and two lit tennis courts also used for pickleball courts.
Indoor courts are limited in time slots, but if you want to play outdoors, they’re available all day. Please be aware that it is first-come, first-serve for courts.
The Best Free Outdoor Pickleball Courts
Dick Nichols District Park
8011 Beckett Road, Austin, Tx 78749
Four Courts – Everyday 5 am – 10 pm
This scenic spot offers everything for your nature needs. Nichols park is a beautiful neighborhood. The district park has several well-maintained pathways and two newly resurfaced tennis courts with painted pickleball lines.
There are no court reservations, and you need to bring your net. Get here early if you want to beat the tennis players.
Pickleball Courts at Pan Am Park

Four Outdoor Pickleball Courts – Everyday 5 am – 10 pm
This urban neighborhood park is bustling with energy, and offers plenty of space to picnic, play sports, or enjoy the outdoors. Four public pickleball courts lined on the tennis courts in the park, but you’ll need to bring your net since there is yet to be one provided.
Pickleball Courts at Civitan Park

Four Outdoor Pickleball Courts – Everyday 6 am – 10 pm
Park with tennis courts, a ball field, a pool, picnic tables, and a community/daycare center. Four pickleball courts with painted lines; however, you must bring your net as none is provided at the park.
Pickleball Courts at Joslin Park

Two Outdoor Pickleball Courts – Everyday 6 am – 10 pm
While lit for night play, nets aren’t provided, and the two pickleball courts are first come, first serve. In addition to excellent tennis facilities, this neighborhood park also boasts a quaint butterfly garden that is especially beautiful in springtime. Although relatively small, it provides much-needed shade from the intense summer heat beneath its many oak trees.
The Best Paid Pickleball Courts
The Pitch Austin

The Pitch is the perfect food and entertainment destination for soccer fans and pickleball lovers, with restaurants, food trucks, and two full bars. The Pitch has live music and great events for people of all ages, with permanent nets and dedicated courts, rental paddles, and two balls with every reservation.
Courts 1 and 2 are only available by reservation, but Court 3 is open to the public. You must use a credit card to book a court, but there is no fee to reserve one if you don’t show up or cancel your reservation, it is a 25$ fee. You can reserve courts in half-hour increments for up to 2 hours.
Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center

8:30 am and 10 pm Monday thru Friday or 8:30 am to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.
The Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center is the city’s largest public center, with eight well-lit pickleball courts. GAP members play for $2.00 per court per hour, while non-members pay $3.00. If you’re looking to learn to play, they offer certified professionals. Find plenty of group classes, private lessons, leagues, and socials that will satisfy your tennis and pickleball needs.

The Quarries Recreation Complex and neighborhood park is the perfect place for anyone and everyone. A competitive group of pickleball players that regularly fill up the open play time slots. Go to their website to reserve your slot and on the challenge court. Reserve indoor courts on their website or drop in and ask about the outdoor courts.
Austin Pickleball Ranch (Opening In 2023)
Pickle Ranch, slated to open in 2023 in Austin, will boast 32 pickleball courts and become one of the biggest pickleball venues in Texas. The ranch will also feature sand volleyball, food trucks, and a music venue.
